Which engine should I fit to my Sigma once all body work has been done? Well why don't you help me decide? But before you vote on the Poll to the top-right corner of this blog, read the info below for a short description of each engine combo:
- 20B 3rotor Turbo: This is the Mazda JC Cosmo engine, imported from Japan. If I choose this engine, it will be reco'ed and fitted with racing seals and turbo porting, with a large ball bearing turbo and high boost. This is my ultimate engine for this car, but would cost the most to buy, modify, adapt and fit to my Sigma. This combo is expected to put out more than 650hp at the rear wheels.
- 4G54 2.6 EFi Turbo: This would be a hybrid engine comprising of GN Sigma Astron II block and TS Magna head, with all components reco'ed and strengthened. This combo would also either include a Magna EFi convertion or LPG conversion and a large ball bearing turbo. This combo would be the easiest and cheapest to fit, as the engine is already fitted to my Sigma, albeit in a much more stock and worn out condition :). This combo is expected to put out about 500hp at the rear wheels.
- 4G64 2.4 EFi Turbo: This would be the engine from a newer model Mitsubishi Triton. It's a 2.4 litre engine, but instead of the 16V SOCH head, I would try and source a DOCH head from overseas and then strengthen the engine and turbo it. Fuel management would be either EFi or LPG. This combo wouldn't be the dearest but would still cost more than the 4G54 option. This combo is expected to put out about 550hp at the rear wheels.
- 6G75 3.8 V6 24V Quad Cam EFi: This engine would be from a late model Pajero mated to a V6 2WD Triton gearbox. Why not turbo you ask? This and the V8 option further down are my two naturally aspirated options. This would be one of the cheapest options to modify and fit to my Sigma. (yes I know I put the wrong engine code for this option on the poll, it should read 6G75, not 6G78). This combo is expected to put out about 250hp at the rear wheels with extensive porting and higher compression.
- 6G72 3.0 or 6G74 3.5 V6 24V Quad Cam EFi Twin Turbo: This engine would be a hybrid of Triton V6 2WD, Pajero and 3000GT engines. This would be the third cheapest turbo option and would yield good results. This combo is expected to put out about 600hp at the rear wheels.
- Ford 302 EFi V8: This engine would be from a late model Mustang or Falcon. Another V8 option I'm also considering would be a 4.6 quad cam V8 from a Mustang. This would be one of the cheapest conversions and my reason for including this option is that I am an avid car nut and so far in life I've had every type of car except for a V8 and I love Mustangs. This combo is expected to put out about 300hp at the rear wheels with some engine modifications.
- 13B EFi Turbo: This engine would be from a Series 6 RX7 but converted to single turbo. If I fit this engine to my Sigma I would most likely convert it to run on LPG only. This conversion has been done before on Sigmas but I love these engines and I used to own a Series 5 RX7 Turbo not long ago and it went and sounded so nice! If I choose this engine, it will be reco'ed and fitted with racing seals and turbo porting, with a large ball bearing turbo and high boost. This is my ultimate engine for this car, but would cost the most to buy, modify, adapt and fit to my Sigma. This combo is expected to put out more than 500hp at the rear wheels.
