If you want to modernize your old Mitsubishi but want to use a Mitsubishi engine, an easy choice is the Galant/Lancer Evo 4G63 or 4G64 engines. With a bit of work (rerouting the water coolant hoses and intake manifold) you can convert one of these engines from east-west to north-south mounting to fit it into older Mitsubishis! Here are a couple of videos of someone who's done just that to his Mitsubishi Mighty Max (aka L200 or Triton):
